Despite dark clouds, there is a ray of sunshine. As you may have read, within one week of filing our lawsuit, the court held an extraordinary hearing last Thursday.  In my nearly 50 years of practice, I have never seen anything like that hearing.  I have attached a copy of the transcript for those of you with the time and/or inclination to browse it.  You will see that the judge “invited” most of the political leadership in LA County (and beyond) to court for that five-hour session. The court held one yesterday and scheduled the next hearing for tomorrow.  Frankly, we never could have dreamed of the quick and positive action that we have already experienced.  We are hopeful that some concrete results will follow shortly.  If not, we will probably be filing additional motions to ask the court to use its authority to do so.
