The LA Alliance for Human Rights continues to make progress in its landmark lawsuit against the City and County of Los Angeles over their failure to address our community’s homelessness crisis. This week saw the City and County receive a rare and pointed reprimand from Judge Andre Birotte for their lack of cooperation and inability to see the big picture. It’s worth reading the order for yourself because it is so rare to see a federal judge call out local officials in this way. But it also points to the urgency of this moment and the opportunity that this lawsuit brings to change the trajectory of homelessness in Los Angeles. You can also read about it here: https://mynewsla.com/business/2020/10/06/l-a-judge-blasts-county-city-for-bickering-time-wasting-in-homelessness-suit/. Although the elected officials who appear before Judge Carter stress the importance of reaching settlements so that progress can move forward, their legal representatives and bureaucrats have fallen back on their traditional posturing. The elected officials should control their representatives and resolve these issues immediately.
What We Need From You:
The City and County meet again with the court TOMORROW. Please use the links below to contact both your City and County representatives and encourage them to set aside their bickering and come together to enter into an agreement. Then we can focus on the district-by-district implementation we need to see. Forward to your friends, and get your community involved.
